Living Magasine
Total Effekt
Due to the process-based nature of the Session program, this project will undergo constant modifications; the features of this page provide accruing information on the project’s developments.
Throughout their Session, Total Effekt researched and developed a new publication, titled Living Magasine. To create this journal, the artists conducted a speculative archaeological study of “the home,” examining the practical and symbolic value of the dwelling and its constituent parts.
Total Effekt generated materials for the publication by researching present and historical references related to the home (such as designs, exhibitions, and texts), collecting stories from Recess visitors and invited guests about meaningful spaces, commissioning texts that interpret and expand upon the accumulated stories, and creating objects that respond and give form to the project’s findings. Recess acted as a hub for these activities and a showroom for the prototyped, interactive objects.
As a complement to their editorial work, the artists staged two Living Room events in order to present materials related to the their research. At the conclusion of the Session, Total Effekt released Living Magasine, which, freely juxtaposes the texts, images, and documentation that resulted from their investigation of the home, presenting myriad possibilities for our future relationships to our domestic environments. Living Magasine is currently available in Recess’s space and at Printed Matter.
