Feedback: Nonstop (1 of 6)
Christine Sun Kim and Lukas Geronimas
Due to the process-based nature of the Session program, this project will undergo constant modifications; the features of this page provide accruing information on the project’s developments.
On October 31st, Christine Sun Kim will begin work on the inaugural performance of her 6- event series as part of Session. Session invites artists to use its public space as studio, exhibition venue and grounds for experimentation. The artist, deaf since birth, will perform auditory investigations that initiate a slippage of audio into visual. Using non-vocal methods of dialogue to form collaborative vision with visitors to Recess and a cast of collaborators, the artist will create multiple aural perceptions through the use of bodies in motion, microphones, delay pedals, and more.
The first event in the Feedback series will take place October 31st through November 4th, with a culminating performance on November 4th as part of Performa. For this event, Kim will collaborate with Lukas Geronimas to improvise and exchange ideas in written forms including Gchat, pen and paper, and email. With attention to vibration and movement, Kim will translate this material, rendering the information visual. As a result, Kim will explore modes of collaborative communication and the implicit improvisation that occurs in that moment an idea is conceived.
There will be a total of six events in the Feedback series. Following the event in November, Kim will stage performances in January 2012, March 2012, and the final three event dates TBD. In each, Kim will expand communication to go beyond the vehicle of spoken language and capture pure sound without linguistic systems.
