Offering of Dreams: Closing Reception & Book Launch

1-2:30pm Dreams Book Talk with Guest Speaker Claire Kim Visitors will be able to enjoy a sculptural display of Dreams, a new limited edition, hand-crafted artist book with ceramic and wood elements. The book is an archive of dreams collected by AYDO from intergenerational migrant communities throughout the last three years of the pandemic. The artists will join curator and book contributor Claire Kim in conversation.

1-5pm Final Video Installation & Dream Sharing Fountain An immersive video installation showcasing edited footage of AYDO’s film performances (created throughout their Session) will be played on loop. A large-scale fountain, situated in the center of the gallery, will be activated as a conduit for social exchange centered on dream-sharing. Guests will be offered water-soluble paper and invited to inscribe their dreams and dissolve them into the fountain water. The fountain will take the form of a moon jar, a historic Korean vessel that originated in the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) which, despite its immense global popularity in the ceramics community, has lost its original purpose and cultural meaning throughout years of colonization and war. The fountain reclaims the moon jar as a sacred object and public offering.

About Claire Kim: Claire Kim is a curator and writer based in New York. She is currently the Director of Curatorial Affairs at The Here and There Collective, a Brooklyn based non-profit organization committed to uplifting and connecting art practitioners from the Asian diaspora. She is also in the midst of completing her M.A. candidacy at the Center for Curatorial Studies, CCS Bard. Her upcoming thesis exhibition explores the ways that artists call on familial materials to forge connections with ancestral memory, land, and work. The show explores the idea of inheritance literally, through taking on a family business or skill; as well as more subtly, such as replicating a gesture or movement that feels natural, even inevitable. Kim previously served as the Special Assistant to the President at BRIC, in Brooklyn, as well as a 2020/2021 Curatorial Fellow at NXTHVN. She has worked in museum education and programming with many arts institutions and organizations, including the Asian American Arts Alliance, the Mark Morris Dance Group, the New Museum, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
